Premise - Rough Ideas

I am trying to begin my Premise project by coming up with some ideas, but one thing I'm certain on is that I'd like to create a story. Most of the ideas are vague/random or have pieces missing from them to be able to work yet, but here are some starting points for potential ideas.

1. My first idea is probably my most detailed and favourite one so far. It is about a boy who is raised on an island by his family, and as he grows up he realizes that himself and everyone around him are just spending their lives working the same old jobs everyday just to stay alive, until the day they die. As he watches everyone around him age and die, he knows that this is what is in store for him unless he pursues what he wants to do, even though he is frowned upon and not taken seriously for it. On the island stands a giant mountain stands higher than all the clouds. He wants to climb to the very top as it is the only way to escape the island and his only chance to get away from the repetitive and seemingly meaningless life. (What is on top of the mountain or how it allows him to escape is something that still needs to be determined) When he begins to climb the mountain as a young adult, his girlfriend/wife insists to go with him, to join him on whatever adventure may come. During the climb, they discover she is pregnant but with the height they are at, they choose to keep going. The time comes when she gives birth somewhere on the mountain, and the boy who has now grown into a man, must now protect his wife and son from the elements and wild animals that stand in the way of getting to the top of the mountain. There are a lot of things to figure out with this idea, such as where and when exactly it is set, what is actually at the top of the mountain to give it such vital importance, who survives and who doesn't make it to the top. The general idea is that the mountain is metaphorical for a number of things, and that it is unpredictable and merciless. There are different potential ways to end the story, but what is important is the attitude to climb despite the sacrifices and discomfort.

2. The second idea is less meaningful and detailed, but it involves apes/cavemen from millions of years ago, fighting for dominance and life. It could be interesting to create a story following such characters and such nature. The main character/characters who struggle to survive, must stand their ground and find a way to prevail in order to obtain an ultimate level of dominance.

3. The third idea is about a young creature/alien that is brought to Earth and dropped there. As they grow up, they are rejected and treated differently to everyone else because of how they are. For example, although they mainly resemble a human, they might have a different amount of eyes/fingers, different sized head or shape to humans slightly. They can possess some kind of power that they don't fully know how to control yet, and everywhere that they go, they can keep seeing a mysterious symbol that they cannot decipher. After years of being an outcast and isolating them self, they finally figure out the message in the signs and symbols they have always seen everywhere. With this information, they discover how to use their powers to maximum potential and what they were brought to Earth for. They could maybe grow massively in size and control the world beneath them, causing destruction to everyone. After this, they can either remain here or be picked up from the mysterious creatures that dropped them there in the first place, and taken back into space, after leaving such an impact on the planet.

4. Another idea is linked to the Id, Ego and Superego. I could do this by either creating a character who is fighting internal battles between good and bad, or by actually personifying the characteristics. There could potentially be the same character twice, although one has more morals and fears, while the other one is more motivated and determined to get things done, and can also be perceived as an evil twin to an extent. What could happen between them is unknown. The bad one might try to eliminate the softer one as they are holding them back. Essentially they can be sacrificing part of them self in order to proceed in their aim.

5. The next idea is centered around a boy who is often visited by a dark/spiritual presence. From a young age it is present, but as he grows into an adult and life becomes tougher, the presence grows larger and spreads across his bedroom. His environment can begin to embody this darkness the older that he gets. The character might have an aim/goal that he is fighting for, and while he does the dark substance haunts him and lurks behind him, whispering to him and placing fears in his head. When the time comes, the boy can either give in and let it consume him, or he can learn to cope with it and not let it control him. If he does become consumed by it, he can maybe become controlled by it. It can either give him some dark power that allows him to fight for his goals more aggressively, although his soul/awareness isn't its full self, or it can cause him to break down and fail whatever his mission is. I think there are multiple ways in which this story can play out, whether it be positive or negative as a result.

6. The sixth idea follows a robot who is travelling through an open desert. They are rusting and breaking down while trying to get somewhere/achieve something, but they are unaware as to what. They have to figure out what they're doing while breaking down and dying, and they keep navigating the deserted land. They can figure this out and achieve something great on their mission, or they can discover that they have actually become a robot somehow, and that they were once a human. It could be that the person tried so hard at something that they eventually lost their mind and identity, which left them in this state.

7. Another idea involves a homeless boy who lives a tough life in a junkyard with his dog, who builds a spaceship with lots of junk and gets it to work. He and his dog travel to space and see a completely new world. I am not fully certain on where I would take this story, but I believe there would be a lot of possibilities.

8. The next idea is based on a child who controls the weather with their emotions. As they get older the effectiveness of this grows stronger. They cannot control the weather by own choice, it depends on their emotions and state of mind. Perhaps the environment could change in appearance too. For example, it could become crooked or start to not make sense, depending on their mental stability at that time. As for the story I think there's a lot of options, and each could determine how story, weather and environment differently.

I have thought of many different ideas, but the ones above are my most refined ones so far. I might still bring forward completely different and new ideas if I feel they have potential. Although I am not fully sure on some of the ideas above, I thought I would present them in case I borrow certain elements from them.

  2. Hey Frankie - an impressive filmic list of ideas on here. It's obvious there's more to flesh out, but the one that grabbed me immediately was idea 3 - because it has this sense of it having this clear sense of mystery about it - a riddle - and this opportunity for a third act twist. Now call me an evil bastard, but as I was reading your idea I felt this mischievous impulse: with the idea of a humanoid being an outcast you've got a sort of Spielberg vibe there - a sort of Close Encounters sense of everything building towards a transcendent moment, and audiences going home with a warm fuzzy feeling about belonging etc... but maybe I've watched too many episodes of Black Mirror, but the idea that, at the end of the film, the sweet-looking humanoid thing finds its role in some larger plan signalled by the various symbols it sees everywhere - and it's role is to bring about the annihilation of the human race... which it does, and then afterwards, dusting itself down, it looks at the camera and looks rather pleased with itself... I like that ending! It feels like you could appropriate and pastiche a whole bunch of tropes from films etc so audiences watching it for the first time are completely floored by the vicious ending - so manipulative, John Williams-riffing soundtrack - lots of Spielberg 'tracking into faces' stuff... and then it all goes a bit Tim Burton's Mars Attacks...
