Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill Vol. 1 tells a blood filled story of revenge staring Uma Thurman , who plays the role of the bride who's family get slaughtered by the skilled Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. Despite receiving some criticism that the film is about nothing but blood and violence, the film contains multiple elements that make it Postmodern, and Tarantino seems to have made it to reminisce over films from his youth and create something enjoyable, that also meant something to him. One way in which the film is postmodern, is Tarantino's eclectic approach to making the film. He brings together a combination of different genres, including Action, Western and Kung Fu Cinema. In some scenes he uses a black and white filter, leaning towards classic horror films, which then changes to colour in following scenes. Film Review: The Hero's Journey in Spider-Man (2002)

The famous pattern of Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey makes its presence throughout Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man . Peter Parker (Toby Maguire) is the hero throughout this movie, who has to balance life affecting complications when he decides to keep his true identity separate from his actual superhero life. The Hero’s Journey of course starts with the Ordinary World , which is what we are introduced to as Spider-Man kicks off. Peter Parker at this point in the story, is one of the most unexpected individuals to be considered a hero. He’s just a student trying to live his life in New York, while often missing his school bus or being pushed around by domineering bullies around him. This is Peter Parker’s ordinary world, he has a crush on the girl he knows he will probably never get, he is a young and sophisticated photographer just trying to survive each day as it comes. Luckily for him, the next step to the journey (The Call to Adventure) is given to him early on in the movie.

Film Review: La Belle Et La Bete

Jean Cocteau's La Belle Et La Bete (1946) is a French romantic fantasy, and also an adaption of the Beauty and The Beast story from 1757. This film thrives to create a sense of magical enchantment, through its extraordinary set design and mystical cinematography. Before the film starts, there is an opening title talking about how children believe stories and what they are told, it then says "They believe a thousand other simple things. I ask of you a little of this childlike simplicity, and, to bring us luck, let me speak four truly magic words, childhood's open sesame: 'Once upon a time...'" ( La Belle Et La Bete , 1946) The fact Cocteau chose to include this gives away his intention of attempting to put the viewers under a spell when watching, and in a way he is trying to banish any disbelief present and make the audience think and believe as if they're a child again. Film Review: 2001: A Space Odyssey

Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) Is a very uniquely crafted movie, not only for its time but even today. Kubrick's cinematography in this film really is distinctive in the feel that it gives to the viewer. Considering it is a film set in space, (before humans had ever stood foot on the moon) it ticks all the boxes when it comes to not only being realistic and believable, but even more so giving the viewer a stronger sense of being there and taking part in the journey. The film had a lot of hard work and thought put into it in order to tackle everything that it did in the specific ways that it did. "Kubrick decided he didn’t want to leave 2001’s mise en scène in the hands of film industry artists. He wanted a more realistic setting. He assembled a skunkworks team of astronomical artists, aeronautics specialists, and production designers." (Rhodes, 2015) This act of preparation alone went a long way, and it is clear to see that when watching the movie.

The Premise After a plastic surgeon loses his confidence and boards a cruise ship to get away from it all, it takes an unexpected and unlikely friend to help bring back the spark he needs. The Logline Gerald Harrington is a plastic surgeon whose composure is blown when he makes a mistake on one of his patients, causing him to flee from his city on a cruise ship to diminish his guilty conscience. When he finds a troubled and lost jelly fish at sea, he uses all that he knows along with the light bulb in his room to help it out.

JPJ improvements

Instead of moving onto the next tutorial, I decided to go back and clean up what I'd currently done. I had to rearrange a lot of vertices to reduce bumps and repair the mouth. It still isn't perfect, but I'm much happier with the changes I have made and I'm now prepared to continue with the following tutorials.
